The Government of Sierra Leone is moving to strengthen security and local governance at the chiefdom level with plans to recruit approximately 800 Native Administrative police officers across the country.

The proposed recruitment, announced by Vice President Dr. Mohamed Juldeh Jalloh during a high-level regional consultation in Makeni, is expected to bring security services closer to communities, improve response to local security concerns and reinforce the capacity of chiefdom institutions to maintain peace and order.

The initiative follows concerns raised by Paramount Chiefs about the need for a stronger, better-resourced local policing presence in rural areas.
